Approximately 1 out of every 6 adults in East Harlem has diabetes
and thousands more are likely unaware of their condition because
they have not been tested. In addition, obesity and diabetes rates
among adults and children residing in the East Harlem community
have been, and continue to be, on a rapid rise. If nothing is done
to halt and reverse this trend, 1 out of every 2 Latino and African
American children will develop diabetes in their lifetime.

The Communities IMPACT (Inspired and Motivated to Prevent And ConTrol) Diabetes Center is doing something about it.

IMPACT is a REACH U.S. Center of Excellence for the Elimination of Disparities funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). IMPACT is led by academic researchers, community residents, and representatives from local community and faith-based organizations that have united to understand the needs of the community to help people better prevent and control diabetes.
