Pre-Diabetes Screening and Education

The East Harlem Partnership for Diabetes Prevention is a community-academic partnership comprised of 20 community leaders whose mission is to empower East Harlem residents with pre-diabetes to prevent or delay diabetes and live longer, healthier lives.

Formed in 2006, the Partnership employs a community-based participatory research approach to develop a scientifically rigorous, community sensitive, peer-led lifestyle intervention called Project HEED (Help Educate to Eliminate Diabetes) that promotes weight loss among overweight adults with pre-diabetes.

After promising pilot results, the Partnership is now conducting a full-scale, randomized, controlled trial to demonstrate the effectiveness of Project HEED.  For more information about Project HEED or call (212) 659-9552 or email ehpdp@unionsett.org.
